The EVA solution didn´t work because I had a Parachute that blocked the door - I didn´t build the rocket to be able to do EVA missions since it was designed to simply bring tourists in orbit and back - because of a navigation mistake I wasted a whole Tank of fuel in the wrong direction, before I realised my fault and then I was 8000m to far away to get back into the atmosphere. This is how the Mercury Redstone 3 rocket worked, once the capsule was in orbit, it only took a tiny RCS thruster to come back to earth. When your already in orbit it doesn't take much to deorbit unless your way too far or heavy to do it. It might be a lot easier then you think, unless your ship is stupidly heavy.
